\nBlootstelling aan gevaarlijke stoffen komt op Europese arbeidsplaatsen veel meer voor dan gedacht. Gevaarlijke stoffen op het werk kunnen diverse gezondheidsproblemen en ziekten veroorzaken en risico’s voor de veiligheid meebrengen. De campagne #EUhealthyworkplaces van het Europees Agentschap voor veiligheid en gezondheid op het werk<\/a> <\/span>(EU-OSHA) is bedoeld om werknemers en contractoren bewuster te maken van de risico’s van gevaarlijke stoffen op de werkvloer en een risicopreventie-cultuur te bevorderen.<\/p>\n\n

\nDe Belgische chemie- en farmasector zetten zich mee in om van deze Europese campagne een succes te maken. De campagne toegespitst op ons land \u201cGevaarlijke stoffen, zo pak je dat aan\u201d, werd onlangs gelanceerd door de FOD Werkgelegenheid, Arbeid en Sociaal Overleg<\/a> <\/span>(WASO), samen met de sociale partners vertegenwoordigd door de Belgische Federatie van de Chemische Industrie Essenscia<\/a><\/span> en het Europees verbond van vakverenigingen European Trade Union Institute<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\nVeiligheid zit in het DNA van de chemie- en farma-industrie. Sectorbedrijven investeren fors in de veiligheid van hun procesinstallaties, maar de gezondheid en het welzijn van de ruim 90.000 werknemers in Belgi\u00eb is evident ook een topprioriteit. Via gespecialiseerde veiligheidstrainingen<\/a> <\/span>en een permanente focus op risicopreventie<\/a><\/span> doet de sector al het mogelijke om eventuele veiligheids- en gezondheidsrisico\u2019s tot het absolute minimum te beperken.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\nMet resultaat, want het aantal arbeidsongevallen in de sector is de voorbije tien jaar stelselmatig afgenomen. In 2005 lag de frequentiegraad van arbeidsongevallen in de chemie en life sciences op 14,4 per miljoen gewerkte uren. In 2015 was dit cijfer gezakt tot 9,2. Dat is een daling met liefst 36%. Daarmee ligt de frequentiegraad van arbeidsongevallen in de chemie en life sciences bijna de helft lager dan het industrieel gemiddelde. Ook het aandeel van beroepsziekten ligt in de sector relatief laag, zo blijkt uit cijfers van Fedris<\/a><\/span>, het Federaal agentschap voor beroepsrisico’s. In 2015 werden in de chemie en life sciences 51 aangiften gedaan, ofwel amper 2% van het Belgische totaal.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\nDe campagne mikt namelijk niet enkel op de chemie en farma. Ook in andere industri\u00eble sectoren kunnen werknemers in aanraking komen met potentieel risicovolle vaste stoffen, vloeistoffen of gassen die bij een onoordeelkundig gebruik de veiligheid of gezondheid kunnen schaden. De campagne, die loopt tot eind 2019, legt daarom de klemtoon op samenwerking en communicatie doorheen de ganse waardeketen met een focus op werknemers met een verhoogd risicoprofiel. Het initiatief wordt in elke Europese lidstaat gelanceerd.<\/p>\n
